The SEOST Paid Media Playbook
Paid Media & PPC.
The practitioner's guide to buying traffic that pays you back — Google, Shopping and paid social. No vanity metrics, just the plays that protect ROAS.
Paid media is the only channel where you can turn on qualified traffic this afternoon — and learn exactly what converts.
That speed is the point. A good campaign tells you in a week what SEO takes months to confirm: which offer lands, which audience buys, which message moves money. That's leverage no other channel gives you.
But paid also punishes sloppiness fastest — every weak click costs real dollars. This guide is the same material we run on stage at SEO Spring Training: modeled on the accounts that are actually profitable, broken into the plays you can run one at a time.
The Channels
Six fronts of paid media.
Paid isn't one button — it's a stack of platforms and skills. Each front below is its own deep-dive, with guides underneath.
Google Ads
Search intent you can buy. Account structure, keywords and bidding that put you in front of ready buyers.
Explore →Meta Ads
Facebook and Instagram — interrupting the feed with the creative and targeting that create demand.
Explore →PPC Management
The ongoing optimization — bids, budgets, negatives and testing — that keeps a paid account efficient.
Explore →Retargeting
Winning back the visitors who didn't convert the first time, across search and social.
Explore →Paid Social
Demand you create yourself — the platforms, creative and funnels behind profitable social ads.
Explore →Lower Your CPC
Where paid budgets leak and the levers that bring cost-per-click down without losing volume.
Explore →The Foundation
How profitable ads actually work.
Every winning campaign comes down to three levers. Get these right and the platform settings take care of themselves.
Is the offer strong?
No targeting rescues a weak offer. Before you touch a bid, make sure what you're selling is something the right person actually wants to click.
Are you reaching the right people?
Intent and audience decide whether a click is worth paying for. Search buys intent; paid social builds demand. Match the channel to the job.
Does the click convert?
Traffic isn't the goal — revenue is. The landing page and the measurement behind it are what turn spend into a return you can scale.

Questions
Paid media, answered.
What is paid media?
Paid media is any advertising you pay to place — Google Search and Shopping, Meta and other paid social, YouTube, display. Done right it buys you attention and data on demand, and it's the fastest channel to test an offer.
Is paid media better than SEO?
Neither wins alone — they do different jobs. Paid buys traffic instantly and lets you test offers fast; SEO compounds for years once it ranks. Smart teams use paid to learn what converts, then earn the rankings for it.
How much should I budget to start?
Enough to gather real data without betting the business — often a few thousand dollars over a month so the platforms can exit the learning phase. Start with one tight campaign and a strong offer before you scale spend.
Why is my cost per click so high?
Usually it's relevance and quality score, not just competition — weak ad-to-keyword-to-landing-page match, broad targeting, or a thin offer. Tighten those and CPC drops while conversions rise. We walk through the fixes in the guides above.
Do I need a special landing page for paid traffic?
Almost always. Paid clicks are expensive, so the page has to do one job with no distractions. Conversion rate optimization is where paid campaigns are won or lost — it's its own discipline, and its own pillar in this guide.
