The SEOST Entity SEO Playbook
Entity SEO.
Stop being a string of words and start being a thing. How to make Google and AI engines recognize, trust, and connect your brand as a defined entity.
Google stopped thinking in keywords a decade ago. It thinks in entities — and so should you.
Entity SEO is the part of semantic SEO that decides whether a search engine actually knows who you are. A keyword is a string; an entity is a thing with its own identity, attributes, and relationships. When Google can confidently say "this brand is that thing, connected to these topics," you get surfaced in ways a keyword match never earns.
This hub is the practical version of that idea. How entities work, how to make your brand into one, and how to connect it to the knowledge graph and the right topic clusters so the engine understands your whole field, not one page.
The Facets
What entity SEO actually covers.
Being an entity isn't one task. It's a handful of signals that together tell the engine you're a defined, trusted thing.
What counts as an entity
People, brands, products, places and concepts — the uniquely identifiable things Google stores with their own attributes.
Explore →Entity salience
How central your target entity is to a page. NLP scores what a page is really about — so your focus has to be obvious.
Explore →Brand as an entity
Turning your business into a thing Google recognizes: consistent identity, schema, and a defensible About page.
Explore →Entity relationships
Nothing is understood in isolation. How your entity connects to known entities places you on the graph.
Explore →Entities vs keywords
Why meaning beats string-matching, and how entity recognition changed what "optimizing a page" even means.
Explore →Confirming entities on-site
Schema, internal links and clean structure that confirm to the engine exactly what thing each page is about.
Explore →The Mechanism
How Google turns you into an entity.
Three steps run quietly behind every query. Win them and you stop competing on keywords alone.
Recognize
Google extracts entities from your pages and the wider web, then tries to match them to something already in its knowledge graph. If it can't pin you down, you stay a vague string.
Disambiguate
Is "Apollo" the mission, the god, or the software? The engine uses context and relationships to decide which entity you mean — and whether your brand is distinct enough to resolve.
Connect
Once resolved, your entity gets wired to related entities and topics. That web of connections is what lets Google and AI engines confidently surface you for a whole field.

Questions
Entity SEO, answered.
What is entity SEO?
Entity SEO is optimizing so search engines recognize your brand, people and products as distinct, well-defined things in their knowledge graph — not just strings of keywords. You earn visibility by being an entity the engine can identify, trust and connect to related topics.
What is an entity in SEO?
An entity is a uniquely identifiable thing — a person, company, place, product or concept — that a search engine stores with its own attributes and relationships. Google assigns entities internal IDs and tracks how they connect, which is why a clearly defined brand gets surfaced more reliably than an undefined one.
What is entity salience?
Entity salience is how central a given entity is to a piece of content. Google's language processing scores which entities a page is really about. High salience for your target entity tells the engine the page is genuinely focused on it, not mentioning it in passing.
How do I make my brand an entity?
Define it consistently everywhere — the same name, description and details across your site, social profiles and citations. Add Organization and Person schema, build a strong About page, earn mentions on sites Google already trusts, and connect to known entities so the engine can place you on the graph.
Does entity SEO help with AI search?
Directly. AI answer engines reason in entities and relationships, not keywords. A brand the engine recognizes as a clear, well-connected entity is far more likely to be pulled into a generated answer, which makes entity work the foundation of both classic rankings and AI visibility.
